How does a laser work?
Laser treatment uses an intense beam of light to gently remove unwanted, damaged, or diseased cells without harming the surrounding healthy cells. When laser energy is absorbed in the pigmented or tattooed skin, it breaks up the ink that causes the discoloration and allows it to be carried away by the body.
How many treatments are required?
Length and number of treatments depend on the size, location, depth and color of your tattoo. New and darker colored tattoos require more treatments than older, faded tattoos. Treatments are four to six weeks apart to allow your body to remove the maximum amount of pigmented or tattooed cells, which will diminish the appearance of the tattoo.

Do laser treatments hurt?
The VersaPulse Laser uses a special "chilled tip" to cool the skin during treatment. Some patients say they feel a slight sting, like the snap of a rubber band on the skin, followed by the feeling of sunburn. Many treatments do not require anesthetics. However, some patients feel more comfortable with a local numbing agent like ice. For some patients a local anesthesia may be beneficial.
What results can I expect?
Most patients will see improvement in their vascular and pigmented lesions. This improvement can be quite dramatic. However, as with any surgical procedure, there is always a possibility that only minor changes will occur and in rare cases there is no response.

What types of lasers does Dr. Lacombe use?
The VersaPulseª Aesthetic Laser has a special water-cooled chilled tip which cools the skin during treatment and is used for treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions (see definition above).
The NLite®-V system is a laser which uses patented pulse technology to emit a wavelength of yellow laser light to heat the web of collagen in the skin’s underlayer, causing a tightening of the skin, which improves skin tone and texture, and stimulating collagen production. The improvements will continue and become even more noticeable in the four to six months following your treatment.
