An Eyelid lift, also know as Blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin from the upper and lower eyelids. Some patients have underlying fatty tissue that needs to be removed as well. An eyelid lift can improve features that make you look older and more tired than you feel, such as drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes. Sometimes, patients who felt they needed a brow lift find that upper-eyelid surgery better met their surgical goals.
Blepharoplasty surgery is customized for every patient, depending on their particular needs. It can be performed alone or in conjunction with other surgical procedures.
Am I a good candidate for eyelid surgery?
Typical candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who are physically healthy and 35 or older, but if droopy, baggy eyelids run in your family, you may decide to have eyelid surgery at a younger age.
There are a few medical conditions that increase the risk for this procedure, such as thyroid conditions like hypothyroidism and Graves' disease. Dry eyes or lack of sufficient tears, detached retina, glaucoma, high blood pressure and other circulatory disorders, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes are other conditions that increase risk.
How soon can I go back to work?
Most people feel ready to go back to work in about week. Avoid more strenuous activities for two to three weeks.
You should be able to read or watch television soon after the procedure depending on swelling. However, you won't be able to wear contact lenses for about two to three weeks. |
