Injectable Filler Basics
At his office in Santa Rosa, Dr. Lacombe uses Restylane and other fillers for wrinkle correction, lip enhancement, chin augmentation, filling cheek depressions, redefining lip border, and softening acne scars. To accomplish these goals, there are several fillers that can be used.
- Restylane: This filler is a clear gel made with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. - Sculptra® Aesthetic: Sculptra can be used to improve the appearance of aging skin, folds, indented chin surfaces, hollowed cheeks, and sunken or hollow eyes. Sculptra is a safe and biocompatible material. Results can last up to two years or more.
- RADIESSE®: The unique composition of RADIESSE provides the immediate visual improvement common with other fillers, along with the benefit of long-lasting results. This is because RADIESSE is made of very tiny, smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. The microspheres form a scaffold through which your body's own collagen grows. RADIESSE allows physicians to treat large areas and deep wrinkles.

The Procedure
Treatment with injectable fillers is usually a simple, 30 minute procedure. The most commonly-reported side effects are temporary redness, bruising and swelling at the injection site (usually resolving within a day or two). There is minimal - if any - recovery time necessary, so you can return to work or normal activities immediately. Avoiding blood-thinning medications such as Aspirin, Advil, and Aleve for several days prior to treatment will help reduce your risk of bruising.
Results
The most important fact to remember about injectable fillers is that the results last from several months to several years, but not forever. Injected material is eventually metabolized by the body, which is why you will need periodic treatments to maintain your youthful appearance.
