Laser resurfacing, also called a deep laser peel, is a surgical procedure used to improve the texture and appearance of aged skin, deep lines, and acne scars. Laser resurfacing may also be used to treat pre-cancerous lesions.

The procedure uses a carbon dioxide laser beam, which removes the upper layers of the aged or damaged skin at controlled levels, making the procedure safe and predictable. Laser resurfacing may be performed on the whole face or in specific regions. Often, the procedure is done in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures, such as a facelift.

Am I good candidate for this procedure?

If you have many lines and wrinkles or deep acne scars your may be a good candidate. The procedure is an excellent solution for the areas under the eyes and around the mouth to soften lines and wrinkles.

How soon can I get back to work?

At first the lasered areas will be very red, similar to a sunburn. This redness will gradually subside and your skin will return to normal color in about 10 days to two weeks. Any redness that remains after this period can be safely covered up with make up. Protecting your skin from the sun is extremely important following this treatment. Ask Dr. Lacombe to recommend a sunblock with adequate UVA and UVB protection.
